Mr. Fix It
|The 3-step do-it-yourself treatment to open up an ice dam |
It's quite simple if you follow these easy instructions;
Step 1 - Ice Dam First Response
If you have an ice dam with standing water, you need to act fast! Water can leak into the structure, causing potentially significant damage. Remove as much snow as possible so you have a clear work area. Pour some Ice Dam 1st Response liquid ice melter slowly on top and above the ice dam to attempt to cut an escape route for the already melted snow. The liquid deicer should start working immediately. The product has a freezing point of -76 degrees and melts ice super fast! View products
It's like Drano for your gutter!
..........................................Freezes at -76 degrees!
Step 2 - Ice Dam Attack
Sprinkle some granular Ice Dam Attack in several places on the ice as well. It is not as fast acting, but will work to burn down a path for the water to escape. Ice Dam Attack (TM) is totally safe for all building components, will not harm vegetation or concrete below. You should now be past the critcal point of danger. If you use enough Ice Dam Attack, you should be able to remove several sections of the ice dam in a day or 2 and can lay an Ice Dam Blaster right in the gutter for extra protection. Meanwhile, the next step is to place several Ice Dam Blasters (TM) in strategic locations to complete the long term solution. View products
Step 3 - Ice Dam Blaster
When you are confident that most of the water in that immediate area has drained, place an Ice Dam Blaster right above the ice parallel to the ice where the water was. As new snow melts, it will seep through the bottom of the Blaster and create additional brine that will cut under the ice to not only create an escape route, it will also loosen the bond between the roofing material and ice, so that you can remove sections of the dam over time. You dont need to remove all the ice at once. As long as there is an escape route, the risk of water seepage is reduced. View products
The Ice Dam Blaster TM is a sleeve filled with deicer material that is long-lasting and won't damage the roof or its components (including roofing nails, shingles, gutters and down spouts). In addition, the run-off will not damage turf, shrubs, flower beds, or concrete at the bottom of the down spout. Manufacturer may make modifications to the product at times. We will do the best to keep updated with any changes.
